1.
carol ann - soulbossa This B-side reminds me of early White Stripes. A 1995 Chicken Bone release in a 500 numbered limited edition. |
9. flying again - the members A song about taking an airplane? Really? The flipside features a re-recorded version of "Rat up a drainpipe", which I already knew as flipside to Stiff's release of "Solitary confinement" in 1979. A 1980 Virgin release. |

2.
caesar - hofman Indie rock band from the UK with only a handful of releases. Vibrations From The Edge Of Sanity Records is the short-lived label, operating in Peterborough. |
10. press darlings - adam & the ants Adam Ant's first chart success came with "Kings of the wild frontier" in 1980. This is the flipside, a punk guitar sound mixed with the beatin' bongo toms. Here you hear where "Stand and deliver", "Prince charming",… were born. |

3.
yr critique - le tigre Only one guy in this electro-indie rock girl-band from New York City. Formed in 1998 and one year later they produced their first and best release: "Hot topic". This is from the B-side of this EP on Wiiija. |
11. 1-2, crush on you - the clash In 1978 The Clash wasn't a punk band anymore. They sold their soul to rock 'n' roll money instead. Still they managed to produce great gems, like this B-side, an outtake of their disappointing second album "Give 'em enough rope". |

4.
pop scene (live) - blur Blur, live, is always a sensation. Just listen to this live version of "Pop Scene". It's not so hard to imagine you are actually attending that 1997 gig. |
12. baby - wasted youth B-side of their debut 45 on Bridge House Records. Dark and slow yet strong and psychedelic sound from London. They released about 7 singles and 2 studio albums, mostly for Bridge House. This is from 1980. See vol 6 for my favourite Wasted Youth song. |

5.
blue rinse - formula one UK trash pop on the Fierce Panda label from 1996 as one of their first recordings. |
13. something's gone wrong again - buzzcocks Their last 45 for United Artists, released in 1979. A-side is "Harmony in my head". A new, less heavy sound emerges and it was time to change record labels, unfortunately. |

6.
honey, i'm out of my tree for you - gee mr. tracy All their releases came out on Backs Records in the mid-80s. This 1985 electro lo-fi indie rock is the flip to "I wish the whole damn world was in a bottle" and reminds me of a late Legendary Stardust Cowboy single. Their best effort will always be "The day the shoes bit back", the most hilarious track on the compilation album "Good morning mister Presley", which also appeared on their debut album "Shoot the sherbert, Herbert, straight from the fridge pops". |
14. another coke - alternative tv By 1978 many first hour punk bands imported dub sounds into their recordings as reggae was big in London in those days. "Another coke" was recorded live at the 100 Club and released as flipside to ATV's best song ever "Action time vision" on Deptford Fun City Records. |

7.
lollipop - the leather nun A Swedish garage band covering an Abba tune? Yes, they did. But I chose the B-side of "Gimme gimme gimme". "Lollipop" is a typical Leather Nun song. Mix The Nomads with The Cult and you know what I mean. A 1986 release on Wire Records. |
15. traffic dub - basement 5 Echo loaded instrumental mash up of the excellent A-side "Last white Christmas" (see vol 100), both produced by the legendary Martin Hannett for Island Records. |
|
|
8.
monday - the escalators Their splendid version of "The Munsters Theme" has resurfaced on many comps already, "Monday" however has not. It's perhaps the most pop sounding record The Escalators made; in 1983 for Big Beat. |
16. sticks man - disco reggae band &
black slate 1977 dub reggae release from Belgium. It's a slightly slower version of Black Slate's 1976 massive reggae hit. |
