LOOK WHAT I COULD FIND vol 52
"Wild women 5" - 16 fanatic female frenzies

In The Trashcan Records       GEM052
"Why don't you set me free after a night out because it ain't happening anymore..."

1. elle se balance - lolitas

The best song from their very first 45, released on French label New Rose Records. Great garage pop tune sung by future Stereo Total singer Françoise Cactus, née Françoise Van Hove, who was 23 when singing this. I saw the band once and I loved her typical vocals immediately; that was the most important reason for me to check out Stereo Total years later.

9. rebel love - the launderettes

Just look at the picture sleeve: they were three (and later four) gorgeous young girls and one guy, straight from Oslo, Norway. Here they are with their second release, an EP on Sneakers Records in 1999. The song was written by Cecilie "Bambi Bazooka" Asker, the wild drummer girl.

2. don't ever say goodbye - the hellcats

Female Medway outfit that had only this release on Hangman's Daughter in 1995. Think of Thee Headcoatees with an organ, but without the genius of Billy Childish.

10. buri buri party - the brentwoods

Female version of The Mummies, also from San Francisco, with this 1994 release on Radio X. You love them or you hate them. Think of The Trashwomen with the bass player as vocalist.

3. it ain't happening anymore -  the sires

I think this is my favourite Sires song. I first heard it in 1999 in Ghent at a live gig and talked with singer Domi after the show. She could only agree that this was also one of her faves, written by herself and her friend Andy who plays the guitar. Sadly this was the last release of the band that promised to become one of the best Medway beat influenced outfits of the 90s. A Smart Guy release.

11. i got a guy - the boyettes

Three girls and one guy with a fantastic garage tune, which reminds me of bands such as The Green Hornets. It's released on Wigwam from Melbourne, Australia in the 90s.

4. evil thing - thee headcoatees

The flipside is a terrific rendition of "Santa Claus", the Sonics song. But I prefer "Evil thing", one of my top 3 Headcoatees recordings. I know only one band that had the guts to play this song too, namely Catacombo from Belgium. This is a 1992 Damaged Goods release.

12. shafto road -  sit 'n' spin

New Jersey based all-female garage rock outfit that released half a dozen singles and at least two albums. This is from their second single, from 1995 on Planet Pimp Records.

5. ideal beauty queen - the godzillas

Listen to the raw SHE-sound of Les Godzillas. Cool easy-going garage tune by these 5 wild frenchy gurls in the macho-world of rock 'n' roll. A Wiped Out Records release from 1999. See vol 42 for the A-side.

13. edie is a sweet candy - the 5.6.7.8's

Clear orange wax on Rockville, 1993. This 45 also includes "Teenage head", the Flamin' Groovies song and an unintelligible attempt to equal the screamer of all screamers by Ralph Nielsen, called "Scream". Never thought Japanese girls could be so wild.

6. just 17 - period pains

Wild teenage girls singing about turning 17 on their second single on Damaged Goods in 1997. Snotty teen punk from the UK. See also vol 62.

14. white trash mama - sin alley

From a double-7" released in 1996 by Demolition Derby. Producer was Walter Broes, the singer of The Seatsniffers. It's one of their finest self-penned tunes. See also vols 48 and 76.

7. jingle bells - sciacalli

Hilarious, great rendition of Jingle Bells, hardly recognizably sung by garage hero Scanna (ex The Ugly Things and The Primeteens) in 1993 and issued by Destination X Records. Many young Italian psych-heads went to their gigs to stare at the beautiful looks of bass player Dora aka Ninfa. See also vol 52.

15. a night out - orange crush

Skip the first 30 seconds. Then enjoy the female punky garage pop from this German outfit, that only had one record out, this one on Thunderbaby Records in 1997. Afterwards Veronica Caspers joined The Boonaraaas and played with many bands, such as Dollsquad and her own band, The Cherrypops.

8. set me free - the tribe

Written by guitarist Winfried Van Haelen and recorded in 1993. It's indie pop from Belgium released on JP Van's record label Boom! See also vol 32.

16. stones - miyax

Slow trashy guitar pop by this all-girl band from Germany, released on Thunderbaby Records in 1997 on green wax. In Antwerp, there was a similarly sounding band called Triskell.
