LOOK WHAT I COULD FIND vol 14
"Mad dog empire 66" - 16 songs from the Demolition Derby Records vaults

In The Trashcan Records       GEM014
"A selection from the more than 40 singles, brought to you by Kris "Mad Dog" Verreth in the mid-90s, without whom that decade in Belgium would have been even duller..."

1. stuck in a cave - chrome cranks

Cincinatti, Ohio trash garage rock 'n' roll band that moved to New York City, releasing a couple of albums and at least a dozen 45s, including this one in 1995. It's the live version of the song they also released as a B-side in 1993 on the Insipid Vinyl label from Australia.

9. bad boy - the a-bones

Miriam Linna, ex-Cramps drummer girl, is the singer on this 1993 track, an excellent cover version of Bad Boy, the Larry Williams song.

2. all alright! - larry & the lefthanded

From Finland, they released this 45 in 1995 for Demolition Derby and for Trashcan Records, that also issued their first two 45s. A few more 45s followed and then they kicked out Larry Guitar and went on as And The Lefthanded.

10. old one eye - cowslingers

Another Ohio trash rock band on this volume, this foursome released at least a dozen 45s in the 90s, including this one in 1995.

3. let's dance - sin alley

Best Cramps influenced band from Belgium, they only had two 45s on Demolition Derby Records and one LP on Nitro, the album label of Demolition Derby, both part of the Mad Dog Empire 66, which also included labels such as Pit's Bull. Triggerfinger singer Ruben Block was their guitar player and his then-girlfriend Martine Van Hoof was the charismatic singer, a tiny but wonderful version of a young Wandy Jackson, as Lux Interior called her after Sin Alley's support act for The Cramps in Brussels in 1995. "Let's dance" is a great cover version of The Excels' great  1965 single on Gibson.

11. a sweet sickness - electric frankenstein

The first of two 45s on this label. In 1994 this trash punk band from Boonton, New Jersey, recorded enough tracks for this EP and a full album. "A sweet sickness" was also featured on the following Nitro album "The time is now". Many albums and singles would follow and they are still alive and kicking.

4. white trash mama - southern culture on the skids

One month earlier SCOTS had their "White trash" released on Demolition Derby, one year before it reappeared on the fantastic Dirt Track Date album in 1995 and again on a 45 in 1996 for One Louder. This North Carolina combo will always be linked to "Camel walk", not The Saxons song.

12. mortal minute - the grey spikes

Their final release, together with a Nitro album release in 1996. They formed in Los Angeles about 5 years earlier. There are 3 more punk trash songs on this EP.

5. what i want (i get) - the campus tramps

A four-track EP from 1994 by a Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, garage trash combo. All four  songs reappeared on the 1997 CD "T.F.F.T." as bonus tracks.

13. stupid jerk - the abusers

Two singles and one album is all the recording output of this Scandinavian punk band I know nothing about. "Stupid jerk" is the best of the three songs on this 1996 release.

6. seven days - the satelliters

The best known German garage band from the last 20 years must be The Satelliters. This comes from the first of two 45s on Demolition Derby, the beginning of a great recording career. This EP contains four songs, including three originals.  I spent a few pages of my fanzine Subwire Desire in 1994/95 on an interview with their singer. They still perform and release records.

14. the bullfight of el navarone - los cincos

Formed as One Eyed Richard & The Goddamn Liars, they changed into Los Cincos and Demolition Derby issued their debut release in 1995. Soon they were picked up by Sympathy For The Record Industry for two albums, including one with April March. I prefer their early work, like this 5-track EP.

7. my sweet doll - temporal sluts

This band hailed for Northern Italy, named after a song by The Leaving Trains. This was their second release. "My sweet doll" failed to reappear elsewhere.

15. mach one - man or astroman

Now it's time to go to Alabama for the space instro madness of Man Or Astroman? Formed in the end of 1992, they managed to release no less than 30 singles and 7 albums in the first five years of their existence. It's like Devo warped back into the 60s using Star Trek instruments.

8. grown up wrong - teengenerate

A Tokyo trashpunk band, ex-American Soul Spiders, including Fifi who also was active in Fifi & The Mack 3, formed in 1993. This was their first release from that same year. Many more would follow. After a ten years break, they reunited in 2005.

16. shockwave - the vice barons

Another band that would have been perfect to perform in a hip lounge in 1967. Ultra cool instro madness mixing Californian surf and Italian secret agent soundtracks, from Brussels, Belgium. "Shockwave" is of course the Zorba & The Greeks' song. This EP was issued in 1994. Don't you love the model on the front cover? She appears on many Vice Barons releases.
